Empowering communities before, during and after a disaster.

Our programs build local resilience by providing tools, knowledge and people. Our dedicated team of staff, volunteers and partners works across the US to build a more sustainable and resilient future. These programs have grown from rapid renewable response with solar generators, to micro grid development for long-term recovery, to build power workshops for local capacity building, and to the distribution of hundreds of pallets worth of clean energy equipment through regional free stores.

    Rapid Response

    Relief and recovery is typically carbon-intensive. As climate change drives emergency humanitarian need, we rapidly deploy mobile solar generators and related climate survival technologies to power up disaster responders and affected communities.

    Long-Term Resilience

    Communities need flexible options that are ready in times of need. By sharing local networks, cooperating with a wide range of organizations, and installing permanent microgrids, we help empower communities to be more resilient.

RAPID RESPONSE

Hurricane Helene

Registering as one of the largest hurricanes to impact the continental U.S., Hurricane Helene brought more than 14 inches of rain, unprecedented flooding and landslides. Helene quickly became our largest response and recovery operation to date. Since our teams arrived in North Carolina in September 2025, we’ve raised and committed over $1 million in funding and sustainable response equipment towards communities affected by the storm.

LONG-TERM RECOVERY

Beehive Microgrids

Beehive Microgrids™ (Beehives) provide communities affected by climate disasters with rapidly deployable, sustainable infrastructure that can be moved where it’s needed most, when it’s needed most. These flexible systems serve both “blue sky” (nice weather) and “grey sky” (disaster response) needs with a renewable energy hub or Beehive that provides shelter, electricity, clean water and a reliable space to gather and rebuild.

What’s in a Beehive?

Power Bee

A solar trailer plus battery that can contain additional solar panels, additional solar generators and battery power packs.

Cooler Bee

A solar-powered cooler or freezer trailer or solar trailer that contains freezers and fridges capable of storing food and medication.

Water Bee

A solar-powered water generator or solar trailer that powers atmospheric water generators to provide clean drinking water.

COMMUNITY BUILDS

Build Power

Footprint Project believes in people-powered resilience. The best way to develop new, resilient infrastructure is to build it together. That’s why, between disasters, we partner with mutual aid networks, non-profits, schools, fire stations, government entities and more. Together, we assemble off-grid, mobile solar generators while training, educating and empowering communities to safely plug in to clean energy systems.

UPCYCLED ENERGY

Our Upcycle Energy Program repurposes new and used-but-functional green infrastructure like solar panels, racking and batteries.

We distribute these items to select nonprofit and service organizations for either climate disaster response/recovery or other renewable energy projects. Depending on the organization’s skill set, we also provide technical consultations or assistance in finding a local installer.
