DISASTER RESPONSE

From relief to resilience

IMPACT

We’ve deployed 250+ kW of mobile solar

and 700+ kWh of mobile battery storage

to 25+ disaster response and recovery missions,

providing emergency clean power access to 50,000+ people.

IN THE FIELD

MAUI FIRES, AUG 2023

Devastating wildfires led us to our largest disaster response and recovery mission to date. The power of partnership between community and industry is lighting the path toward resilience on Maui.

Impact In Numbers: 18 community resilience sites supported by mobile solar microgrids; 100kW+ of solar PV and 380kWh+ of storage deployed.

MISSISSIPPI TORNADOES, MAR 2023

When a series of deadly tornadoes tore through rural Mississippi, Footprint Project partnered with a community health center and grassroots organizations to provide critical emergency power.

Impact In Numbers: 3 community resilience sites supported by mobile solar generators; 3kW+ of solar PV and 32kWh+ of storage deployed; 5kW+ of solar PV and 30kWh of storage donated.

HURRICANE IAN, OCT 2022

What happens when a storm collides with our Build Power program? Community partnerships in Florida made our first ever response + resilience mission possible after Hurricane Ian.

Impact In Numbers: 2 new mobile solar generators built; 4 community resilience sites supported by mobile solar generators; 25kW+ of solar PV and 80kWh+ of storage deployed.

UKRAINE, SPRING 2022

Through a broad coalition of partners, Footprint Project coordinated shipments providing energy and communication access for Ukrainians affected by the war.

NEW ORLEANS TORNADO, MAR 2022

Less than 24 hours after a rare, EF3 tornado hit New Orleans, Footprint Project was on the ground to provide solar charging stations for neighbors without power in the hardest hit area of Arabi.

Impact In Numbers: 5 community resilience sites supported by mobile solar generators; 25kW+ of solar PV and 60kWh+ of storage deployed.

KENTUCKY TORNADOES, DEC 2021

Footprint Project undertook its first winter disaster deployment when a deadly, late-season tornado outbreak struck the southeastern United States. Putting our solar generators to the test in harsh, rainy conditions, we powered our first shipping container offices with partnership from the University of Kentucky.

Impact In Numbers: 3 community resilience sites supported by mobile solar generators; 25kW+ of solar PV and 50kWh+ of storage deployed.

HURRICANE IDA, SEP 2021

Footprint Project has been on the ground in Louisiana since September 3, 2021, deploying solar + batteries to communities affected by Hurricane Ida. As the grid is gradually restored throughout the state, thousands in the hardest hit areas still remain without power.

Impact In Numbers: 20+ community resilience sites supported by mobile solar generators; 100kW+ of solar PV and 350kWh+ of storage deployed serving 8,000+ citizens.

Iowa Storms

IOWA STORMS, AUG 2020

Within two hours of the storm, Footprint Project’s response team made their way to Iowa and deployed one solar trailer, two portable solar generators and additional batteries and panels from Minneapolis to set up public, clean energy access stations in Cedar Rapids, one of the regions hit hardest by the extreme winds.

Impact In Numbers: 2 solar charging stations set up; 200+ citizens directly plugged in; clean energy access provided to 1,000+ citizens.

Minneapolis Recovery

MINNEAPOLIS EMPOWERMENT, JUN-JUL 2020

After the May 28th fires, Footprint Project deployed a portable solar generator to power a soundstage and donation hub located across the street from the 3rd Precinct Police Station. In the following weeks we deployed additional equipment to power the George Floyd Memorial Site, then the Powderhorn Park encampment.

Impact In Numbers: 2 medical first aid stations powered, 500+ displaced citizens directly plugged in; clean energy served 2,000+ citizens.

COVID19 Clinic

SOLAR COVID-19 CLINIC, APR-JUN 2020

In partnership with Global Response Management (GRM), we deployed one solar trailer and one solar tent to power GRM’s COVID-19 clinic for asylum seekers at the US/Mexico border. The solar battery systems powered medical equipment, lighting, communications, ventilation and refrigeration for the intensive care center.

Impact In Numbers: Clean energy provided for 30-person medical response team, serving 2,500+ asylum seekers.

Tennessee+Tornados

TENNESSEE TORNADOES, MAR-APR 2020

In Nashville, two solar trailers provided emergency solar recharging for over twelve hundred people and completely powered two community donation and distribution centers. In Chattanooga, the solar trailer was the only means of charging electronics in order to maintain communication.

Impact In Numbers: 3 solar trailer deployments; 1,400+ survivors received direct access to emergency solar recharging; 2 donation centers powered.

Puerto Rico Earthquakes

PUERTO RICO EARTHQUAKES , JAN 2020-ONGOING

Footprint Project’s responders were some of the first volunteers to begin relief efforts after a swarm of earthquakes began striking off the southern coast of Puerto Rico, crippling the grid and leaving thousands displaced from their homes. Within four hours, they hitched up a solar trailer and headed towards the epicenter.

Impact In Numbers: 10 mobile solar stations set up; 10,000+ survivors received direct access to emergency solar recharging; 2 tent encampments powered.
