Solar Generators Light Up Ukraine

Solar generator supplier New Use Energy works on fulfilling shipment to Ukraine

At Footprint Project, we focus on deploying solar generators to disasters in the domestic U.S. and Puerto Rico. Logistics, program sustainability, cultural competency, and overall need have always pointed us in the direction of our own backyard when it comes to building back greener - until Russia invaded Ukraine in February.

With personal and professional connections to the region, we knew we had to do something.

Through a coalition of partners including SmartAID, Information Technology Disaster Resource Center, Global Empowerment Mission, Moldova World Children’s Fund, and Lifting Hands International, we coordinated shipments to help affected Ukrainians over the next several months:

  • 64 advanced surgical LED headlights to assist trauma surgeons treating wounded civilians at 15 hospitals across Ukraine

  • 800 LED winter hats and solar lanterns for first responders and civilians

  • 600 solar reading lamps for shelters

  • 50 iPads and 70 WiFi access points for hospitals and schools

  • 25 solar generators for medical facilities vulnerable to grid outages

  • Solar trailer to provide scene lighting and clean power access for Ukrainian refugees in Palanca, Moldova

“We have already started using the new headlight equipment in our surgical treatment, providing assistance to civilians and anyone who needs treatment,” said a spokesperson for the Surgical Department at the Western Ukrainian Specialized Children’s Center in Lviv. “Despite all the difficulties, we remain at the ‘front’ of the fight for the life and health of the Ukrainian people. Many of the headlights were handed over to hospitals located close to the front line where it is now needed urgently.”

We want to acknowledge a very special thanks to our friends Dania and Paul Shmotolokha, New Use Energy, Enova Illumination, and Gaard One.
