Spring tornado devastates New Orleans community

Less than 24 hours after a rare, EF3 tornado hit New Orleans, Footprint Project was on the ground to provide emergency clean power for neighbors in the hardest hit area of Arabi. Over the next 48 hours, with the help of many partners including Groundwork New Orleans, Together New Orleans, Imagine Water Works, Solar Alternatives, and PosiGen, we deployed:

  • 4 community charging stations, including a battery library for residents without power to ‘check out’ a cell phone battery to charge their device at home

  • a solar microgrid to keep freezers cold at the Community Center of St. Bernard’s food bank

  • a portable solar generator for a local restaurant providing aid to the community

“Footprint Project was a savior to us during the tornado,” said Jamie Richardson, Executive Director at the Community Center of St. Bernard. “Without the help of this organization, we would not have been able to provide food and resources to those impacted in our community. They went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of, this organization is a lifesaver!”
