Puerto Rico Earthquake Deployment

MODQ9413.JPG

In early January, a swarm of earthquakes began striking off the southern coast of Puerto Rico, crippling centralized power production and leaving thousands displaced from their homes. Footprint Project’s responders were some of the first volunteers to begin relief efforts. Within four hours, they found a truck, hitched up Danosa Carribean’s solar trailer, picked up three portable solar generators, and headed towards the epicenter. Over the next few days, volunteers mobilized two more solar trailers and two portable power units to expand the clean energy relief effort. These assets were used by first responders to power critical device recharging, communications equipment, lighting and remote command.

Ongoing aftershocks continue to ripple through the island creating more power outages and leading utility experts to believe that ¼ of Puerto Rico’s electrical power grid will be disrupted for the next year. Footprint solar assets will remain on the island to respond to these energy needs.
