FOR COMMUNITIES

We build grassroots resilience by developing mobile solar programs with local partners. Plug in!

How We Can Help

Energy EMPOWERMENT

When staged between disaster missions, our mobile solar systems are made available to students, artists, organizers and anyone else serving their community. Reach out to power your next event with cleaner energy!

Mobile Solar Assembly

Mobile Solar Assembly

We work with local leaders to plan, assemble and maintain fleets of portable and mobile solar equipment for community resilience. Building systems before the power outage saves lives when the grid goes down.

EDUCATION and Training

We teach student groups, community organizations and neighborhood networks how operate mobile solar equipment, so they are better prepared to provide peer-to-peer energy support and build back greener after storms.

Mobile solar, built with, by, and for Front-Line communities.

The most successful mobile solar programs grow from the ground up. We empower local volunteer leaders with open-source designs, donated equipment, and technical support to build mobile solar + battery storage systems.

the “Community Build” process

1

Who’s on the team? Most of our community builds start when a group of inspired individuals reaches out with a dream of putting solar panels and batteries on wheels. Whether it’s for a school project, for an art fair, for their fire station, for a displaced persons encampment... as long as their mission is to provide clean, community-accessible energy, we’re excited to help.

2

What are we trying to power? The key to a successful mobile solar build is making sure the clean energy system can support what’s going to be plugged in. Is the solar generator going run a single computer, or an entire mobile incident command center?

3

What resources do we need? We source donated components whenever possible from our Hardware Heroes, but we are rarely able to supply all the components needed to “flip the switch.” Successful builds usually require local community investment.

4

Once it’s built, then what? Having a general sense of where the mobile solar generator will be stored, how community groups will access it, who’s responsible for maintenance/insurance, are all key to ensure long-term success. No one likes when a generator’s battery dies because it was left in the dark…
